Production output is approximately 16.000 tons p.a. of coatings, varnishes, enamels and inks mainly sold in the EU, Med and Far East. Customers are industrial metal canmakers, coil and foil coaters. The products for canmakers include solvent-based and water-based coatings for 2 and 3 piece cans, for metal closures, can ends, pails and tubes and aerosol cans. The products for coil coatings application include solvent-based coatings for architecture, packaging and industrial uses.
Role in the project
SALCHI expects to industrialize the demonstration results by producing innovative bio-lacquer based on tomato cutin. The resin has to be available in industrial quantities, at competitive cost. Further it expects to formulate and commercialize a new BPA free lacquer for metal cans: 1) food-packaging (human, baby, pet), 2) caps & closures (beverage, pharma), 3) aerosol (cream) and 4) beverages.
